Annual Holiday Programs

Did you hear some beautiful Christmas music yesterday afternoon?  We sure did and it wasn't coming from our radio.  It was coming from all the AoCS students who have practiced hard over the past month to put on a special show for their families.  Preschool Two, Pre-K One and Pre-K Two all hosted beautiful programs to get us in the holiday spirit.  Great job by all the performers and their amazing teachers!

Preschool Two singing in their first ever performance!

 Beautiful singing.

 They had jingle bells too!

 Practice makes perfect.

This was their final dress rehearsal.

 Let the show begin!

Pre-K One ready to start the show!

Each class also made sweet gifts for the families.

This was about as close as we could get.

 It was PACKED!
WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Happy Holidays from our school family to yours!

O Christmas Tree!

This week all of our little ones got to decorate our school Christmas tree with the ornaments they made in their classrooms.  We saw reindeer, snowmen, mistletoes, and Christmas bulbs with faces on them.  We topped it all off with a Santa hat on top!

Baby Doll Circle Time in Toddler Two

Baby Doll Circle Time is the invention of Dr. Becky Bailey, the brain behind conscious discipline.

Dr. Bailey developed Baby Doll Circle Time as a way to offer young children ways to experience themselves as nurturers and connect to their baby dolls in a manner similar to how they relate to parents and other important caregivers.  The goal of Baby Doll Circle Time is to enhance the quality of the relationship between caregivers and children by strengthening attachment, attunement and social play.

Another wonderful benefit we have experienced with Baby Doll Circle Time is that the children have started to show kindness and warmth to their classmates in the same manner that they have learned with their baby dolls.

All About Thanksgiving

"Thanksgiving is a time of togetherness and gratitude." -Nigel Hamilton

As Thanksgiving is just a few days away, check out these fun Thanksgiving facts that can be shared during the holiday weekend.

The first Thanksgiving was held in the autumn of 1621 and included 50 Pilgrims and 90 Wampanoag Indians and lasted three days. Many historians believe that only five women were present at that first Thanksgiving, as many women settlers didn't survive that difficult first year in the U.

Thanksgiving didn't become a national holiday until over 200 years later! Sarah Josepha Hale, the woman who actually wrote the classic song “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” convinced President Lincoln in 1863 to make Thanksgiving a national holiday, after writing letters for 17 years campaigning for this to happen

No turkey on the menu at the first Thanksgiving: Historians say that no turkey was served at the first Thanksgiving! What was on the menu? Deer or venison, ducks, geese, oysters, lobster, eel and fish. They probably ate pumpkins, but no pumpkin pies. They also didn't eat mashed potatoes or cranberry relish, but they probably ate cranberries. And no, Turduckens (a turkey stuffed with a duck stuffed with a chicken) were nowhere to be found during that first Thanksgiving.

No Forks! The first Thanksgiving was eaten with spoons and knives — but no forks! That's right, forks weren't even introduced to the Pilgrims until 10 years later and weren't a popular utensil until the 18th century.

Turkey! Americans eat 46 million turkeys each Thanksgiving.

The heaviest turkey on record, according to the Guinness Book of Records, weighs 86 pounds.

Campbell's soup created green bean casserole for an annual cookbook 50 years ago. It now sells $20 million worth of cream of mushroom soup.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM OUR SCHOOL FAMILY!!

Thanksgiving Lunch

We are thankful for all of our families that could join us today for our Thanksgiving lunch.  We had a feast in the kitchen for our parents, and then they joined their children in their classrooms for lunch. We had turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes with gravy, macaroni and cheese, green beans, rolls, and pumpkin pie for dessert. Some of our Pre K parents even took turns reading books after lunch.
