Why is it important for your child to do gross motor activities?

This week at AOCS we had a bike for our Preschool and Pre-k classrooms which was so much fun! Apart from it being fun, it also helped our friends work on their gross motor skills. It is very important for kids to work on their gross motor skills. It helps a child gain strength and confident in his/her body. Cycling will also help develop a child's leg muscles, strengthen their bones, build their stamina and improve their cardiovascular development.  Not also does cycling help with muscles and stamina but it also has links to increase happiness, as well as giving kids more opportunities to make social connections. Riding bike has so many other benefits such as:

  • it's something the whole family can enjoy
  • it benefits kids mental health and learning
  • develops balance
  • children learn to operate the bike while balancing, while steering, while regulating the speed. This motor integration helps build motor planing ability
  • children learn the importance of safety rules
  • bilateral motor coordination is enhanced when both hands simultaneously hold the handbars and steer while legs push and lift up on the pedals.

"Life is lie riding a bicycle, to stay balanced you must keep moving."
