Earth Day Picnic with Loved Ones

Family involvement is definitely a priority here at AoCS and something that we love to do! Pictured below is our Earth Day picnic, which is our most recent family event! We had yummy sack lunches and loved that so many different family members joined us! It is so nice to mix and mingle with fellow academy families and for everyone to see their children interact with their classmates. Providing our families with opportunities to gain insight into the day to day of their children and allowing them to get to know their teachers is something we value here. We are always looking for more reasons to get together!

Stella the Breaded Dragon

Today we had a special visitor, Stella the Bearded Dragon! Mrs. Christine brought Stella because so many of our classes have been learning about different animals and critters. The children had the chance to look at Stella, touch her skin, and ask questions. Connecting to their prior knowledge, child talked about where Stella lives, what she eats, how she sheds her skin, how she uses her claws, and they were very curious about what it looks like for her to spit out her tongue! Until next time, Stella!

Recycled Materials Day!

This week we are focused on making our school more "green" with a monthly focus on Green is our Scene! Children brought in recycled materials from home and worked together with their class to find another use for the items! You will see that some classes made and decorated forts, some made maps for their cars and trucks, some made art, and some used the boxes for building! We love seeing their creativity flourish especially when it serves a second purpose like learning to take care of our Earth!

3 Little Bears in Toddler 1

Toddler One did a great job implementing our Frog Street curriculum this week! Their theme is The 3 Little Bears. There are so many purposeful aspects to this lesson that children will benefit from. Sitting as a whole group can be pretty distracting to toddlers, so practicing this skill frequently in short amounts of time is a great way to develop that skill. They will hear this story and use interactive story pieces each day. Eventually, they will be able to retell parts of the story or recite certain lines along with their teacher. This is great for memory development and retention. Our teachers did a great job connecting their story to real life, too! You will see that they were able to experiment with toys and chairs as they learned the language small, medium, and large. They were searching and making choice as to what was "just right" for them. They also used this lesson to learn about their senses! They felt warm and cold porridge and enjoyed squishing it around in the bag. Meaningful moments like this definitely set a great foundation for our littlest learners.
